LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Job Purpose
The Laboratory Technician will perform laboratory investigations accurately and efficiently to support diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of diseases while maintaining high standards of laboratory safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, receive, label, process, and prepare patient specimens for examination.
- Perform routine laboratory tests according to approved procedures and standards.
- Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment appropriately.
- Record and verify laboratory results accurately.
- Communicate laboratory findings to authorized healthcare personnel in a timely manner.
- Maintain proper documentation and laboratory records.
- Ensure appropriate storage and disposal of specimens and laboratory waste.
- Observe infection prevention, occupational health, and laboratory safety procedures.
- Monitor laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment and report shortages or faults.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and laboratory results.
- Support continuous improvement of laboratory services.
- Perform other laboratory-related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Holder of a Diploma or other relevant recognized qualification in Medical Laboratory Sciences/Technology.
- Must be registered and licensed by the relevant professional regulatory authority in Tanzania.
- Previous experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory is an added advantage.
- Good knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety standards, and quality control.
- Good communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
