ANAESTHESIA PROFESSIONAL

Job Purpose
The Anaesthesia Professional will provide safe and effective anaesthesia and perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical and other procedures, while monitoring patients before, during, and after anaesthesia.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients before anaesthesia and identify relevant medical and anaesthetic risks.
- Review patient medical history, investigations, allergies, medications, and other relevant information.
- Develop appropriate anaesthetic plans in accordance with the patient's condition and planned procedure.
- Prepare anaesthetic equipment, medicines, supplies, and monitoring devices before procedures.
- Administer anaesthesia within the scope of professional training and authority.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and clinical condition throughout anaesthesia.
- Maintain accurate anaesthesia records and documentation.
- Identify and respond promptly to complications or adverse reactions.
- Provide appropriate airway management and support ventilation when required.
- Assist with resuscitation and emergency management.
- Provide appropriate post-anaesthetic monitoring and handover.
- Work closely with surgeons, medical officers, nurses, theatre staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure anaesthetic equipment is clean, functional, and appropriately maintained.
- Check availability and proper storage of anaesthetic drugs and supplies.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
- Observe all relevant patient safety and professional standards.
- Participate in emergency, theatre, and on-call duties as required.
- Provide appropriate patient and family information regarding perioperative care where applicable.
- Participate in continuing professional development and departmental training.
- Perform other duties related to anaesthesia and perioperative care as assigned by hospital management.
Requirements
- Recognised qualification in Anaesthesia/Anaesthetic Practice appropriate to the position.
- Valid registration with the relevant professional regulatory authority in Tanzania.
- Valid practising licence.
- Relevant experience in a hospital operating theatre or anaesthesia setting is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of anaesthetic procedures, patient monitoring, airway management, and emergency care.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, professional ethics, and quality healthcare.
