Background
The Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic/Technician will be responsible for maintenance, diagnostics, repair and troubleshooting on excavator machines (hydraulic and mechanical systems). Will ensure machines are safe, reliable and compliant with company procedures and manufacturer standards, including preventive maintenance schedules and breakdown repairs.
Key Responsibilities
Follow all site/workshop HSE rules and company procedures at all times. Ensure safe work on equipment, keep tools and work areas organized to prevent trips and falls. Report unsafe conditions immediately and stop work when required. Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing on excavators (engine, cooling, diagnostic and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and related system faults to restore safe operation). Inspect tracks/undercarriage components (rollers, idlers, sprockets) and ensure proper alignment, tension and wear replacement. Carry out hydraulic hose, coupler, cylinder work and leak tracing repair. Service and troubleshoot engine and basic electrical related issues affecting performance and operation. Complete service reports, and accurate service records; report machine condition and parts requirements. Ensure repairs are tested and verified and machine is released back to operations in a safe working condition.
Qualifications and Experience
Trade qualification / diploma or certification in heavy mobile equipment mechanical and hydraulic systems. Minimum 5 years’ experience servicing excavators (or heavy mobile equipment). Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, hydraulic fundamentals and track/undercarriage maintenance. Proficient with hand tools and workshop equipment. Ability to read manufacturer service manuals and technical documents.
