Background

The Automobile Electrician will diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical and electronic systems on trucks, excavators, heavy equipment, and generators. Will troubleshoot faults, install and test electrical components, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure all work meets safety and manufacturer standards.

Responsibilities

• Comply with all electrical safety procedures at all times and use correct PPE (insulated tools, gloves, safety boots, eye protection, etc.) before starting any electrical work.
• Diagnose electrical faults in trucks, excavators, and power generator systems (starting, charging, lighting, sensors, control).
• Test batteries, alternators, starters, relays, fuses, circuit breakers, sensors and wiring harnesses.
• Repair or replace faulty wiring, connectors, terminals and electrical components.
• Install/replace electrical components including starter, alternator systems, batteries, lighting systems, generator control systems, protection devices, wiring harness and control panel wiring.
• Perform routine electrical preventive maintenance and inspection.
• Read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
• Ensure correct wiring color, polarity, correct pin alignment, and secure harness routing.
• Maintain service reports and maintenance logs.
• Use correct tools and follow safe handling for electrical parts.
• Ensure repairs are tested and quality checked before equipment release.

Qualifications and Experience

• Trade qualification / diploma or certification in automobile or heavy equipment electrical systems.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience with electrical systems on heavy vehicles (trucks/excavators) and power generators.
• Knowledge of 12V/24V DC electrical systems, relays, sensors, switches and generator control and protection components.
• Ability to use testing tools: Multimeter, continuity tester, test light, battery/alternator testing tools etc.
