Job purpose
The System Administrator – Linux & Virtualization will be responsible for administering, configuring, maintaining, monitoring, troubleshooting and optimizing enterprise Linux and virtualized infrastructure environments.
Key responsibilities
- Install, configure, administer and maintain Linux servers, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) environments.
- Administer and maintain VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server and virtual machines.
- Provision, configure, migrate, optimize and decommission virtual machines.
- Manage virtual CPU, memory, storage and networking resources.
- Perform operating system and virtualization patching, upgrades, lifecycle management and system hardening.
- Configure, manage and troubleshoot core Linux services, including networking, DNS, SSH, storage, users, permissions and system processes.
- Monitor the availability, performance, capacity and health of servers, virtual machines and infrastructure components, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
- Support and administer enterprise storage environments, including SAN/NAS.
- Troubleshoot storage connectivity, performance and capacity issues.
- Support backup, restoration, disaster recovery and business continuity environments, including backup monitoring and recovery testing.
- Provide Level 2 and Level 3 technical support, troubleshoot complex infrastructure incidents and perform root-cause analysis within agreed service-level agreements.
- Implement and maintain security controls, access management, vulnerability remediation and compliance requirements across Linux and virtualization environments.
- Participate in infrastructure implementations, migrations, upgrades and technology-refresh projects, including server and virtualization deployments.
- Support high-availability, disaster recovery and business continuity configurations within virtualized and enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Develop scripts and use automation tools to streamline routine administration, monitoring and maintenance activities.

- Infrastructure configurations
- Architecture diagrams
- Standard operating procedures
- Implementation records
- Troubleshooting guides
- Collaborate with Network, Database, Security, Application and other technical teams, vendors and customers to deliver and maintain reliable enterprise infrastructure.
Qualifications and experience
Candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.
- Three to five years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration and enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Demonstrable experience administering Red Hat and/or SUSE Linux environments.
- Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter.
- Experience working in enterprise data-centre or infrastructure environments is highly desirable.
- Experience with enterprise storage, backup and disaster recovery technologies is an added advantage.
- Experience supporting infrastructure implementation and migration projects is an advantage.
Professional certifications
The following professional certifications will be considered an added advantage:
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
- SUSE Certified Administrator
