DP World focuses on facilitating international trade through integrated logistics infrastructure, technological innovation, and efficient supply chain solutions. Its operations support the movement of goods worldwide while emphasizing safety, sustainability, innovation, and inclusion.
Job Purpose
DP World is seeking an experienced professional to fill the position of Facility Supervisor at its Ports and Terminals operations in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The successful candidate will plan, develop, coordinate, and control architectural and engineering designs and drawings while providing hands-on field supervision and coaching to construction teams within the Port of Dar es Salaam.
The role aims to ensure that building and infrastructure projects are functional, durable, compliant with statutory requirements and marine environmental conditions, and delivered safely without disrupting ongoing port operations, vessel movements, or cargo handling activities.
Key Responsibilities
1 . Design and Engineering Drawings
- Prepare concept, schematic, detailed-design, construction, and as-built architectural and engineering drawings for port offices, warehouses, workshops, gate facilities, welfare buildings, substations, control rooms, and heavy-duty industrial structures.
- Develop layouts, elevations, sections, schedules, technical details, specifications, finishes, and accessibility provisions suitable for humid, saline, and corrosive marine-industrial environments.
- Conduct site surveys, verify physical dimensions and existing structural conditions, and translate port operational requirements into practical, buildable designs.
- Maintain strict drawing version control, including accurate numbering, revision histories, approval signatures, and distribution logs.
- Prepare design briefs, scopes of work, technical specifications, schedules of finishes, and architectural inputs for Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and tender documentation.
2. Field Supervision, Team Coaching and Leadership
- Direct, mentor, supervise, train, and coach field personnel, junior engineers, site inspectors, and subcontractors on drawing interpretation, construction techniques, and quality control procedures.
- Conduct daily field inspections and walkthroughs to oversee construction, repair, and refurbishment activities across terminal facilities.
- Provide practical solutions to technical challenges and guide contractors and internal maintenance teams on appropriate construction and execution methods.
- Establish clear on-site work standards and promote continuous learning to improve workmanship and overall construction quality.
3. Design Coordination and Regulatory Compliance
- Coordinate architectural designs with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, ICT, security, and operational requirements to eliminate design clashes before construction.
- Ensure compliance with Tanzanian building codes, municipal planning laws, fire and life-safety standards, accessibility requirements, port security requirements under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, and relevant international marine-industrial standards.
- Manage, submit, and track statutory permit applications, approvals, and design reviews with relevant local authorities and internal stakeholders.
- Integrate environmental resilience, corrosion resistance, energy efficiency, and maintainability into facility designs.
4. Construction Quality and Contract Administration
- Supervise building construction, refurbishment, fit-out, structural modifications, and external civil works to ensure compliance with approved drawings and contract specifications.
- Review contractors’ shop drawings, material samples, mock-ups, method statements, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and Requests for Information (RFIs) within the required turnaround times.
- Issue site observations, Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), snag lists, and corrective action requests, and track their satisfactory completion.
- Witness site testing, measure completed work quantities, and verify interim payment applications, variations, and completion milestones in coordination with the procurement team.
- Monitor project schedules, identify potential risks and delays, and provide progress reports with actionable recommendations to senior management.
- Coordinate work permits, site access, utility isolations, traffic management, and phased construction activities with Operations, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Port Security, and Maintenance teams.
5. Health, Safety, Environment and Project Handover
- Enforce compliance with the port’s safe systems of work, Permit-to-Work (PTW) procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and site safety standards.
- Inspect materials and workmanship to ensure durability against saline air, heavy equipment axle loads, and continuous operational vibration.
- Manage final snagging, system testing, occupancy readiness, and site handover activities.
- Verify and catalogue complete handover documentation, including as-built drawings, warranties, compliance certificates, and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
Key Deliverables
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver:
- Fully coordinated and approved architectural and engineering drawing packages issued according to project timelines.
- Comprehensive tender documentation inputs, technical specifications, schedules of finishes, and BoQ inputs.
- Structured field coaching and training sessions for site teams and junior technical personnel.
- Timely technical reviews of contractor submissions, shop drawings, method statements, and RFIs.
- Regular field inspection logs, non-conformance tracking reports, progress updates, and site instruction registers.
- Verified as-built drawing packages, project closeout documentation, and defect rectification records.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, or a related field from a recognized university.
- Active professional registration in Tanzania and a valid practising licence.
- At least five years of professional experience in architectural or engineering design, drawing production, and site supervision.
- Demonstrated field experience in ports, maritime terminals, heavy industrial facilities, logistics parks, or large-scale civil infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience leading field teams, supervising multidisciplinary contractors, and mentoring site personnel in active operational environments.

- Design Software: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent software, practical working knowledge of Revit and Building Information Modelling (BIM), and proficiency in SketchUp or equivalent visualization tools.
- Multidisciplinary Design Coordination: Ability to read, interpret, and resolve clashes among architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) drawings.
