Position: Independent Non-Executive Director
Term: Three years, renewable
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
CBF is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Independent Non-Executive Director with strong accounting and/or audit expertise to strengthen the Board's financial oversight and assurance capability.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Auditing, Commerce, Banking, or Business Administration with a major in Finance, Accounting, or Auditing from a recognized institution.
- Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Auditing, Development Finance, Risk Management, Corporate Governance, or Business Administration (MBA) is desirable.
- Professional certification such as CPA(T), ACCA, CIMA, CIA, or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 5 years of senior-level experience in finance, accounting, auditing, banking, governance, risk management, development finance, or a related field.
- Experience serving on Boards or Board Committees of reputable organizations.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed Independent Non-Executive Director will be responsible for:
- Providing strategic guidance and oversight to CBF.
- Contributing to the approval and monitoring of the CBF's strategy, policies, and budgets.
- Overseeing financial stewardship, risk management, and governance practices.
- Monitoring the effectiveness and impact of CBF programs.
- Attending and actively participating in Board and Committee meetings.
- Supporting stakeholder engagement and resource mobilization efforts.
Experience and Core Competencies
Candidates should demonstrate strong capabilities and experience relevant to the Foundation's mission, governance requirements, and program priorities, including:
- Strong understanding of corporate governance principles, NGO governance frameworks, and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Knowledge of Tanzanian regulatory frameworks, including laws and governance frameworks applicable to CBF.
- Experience in risk management, internal controls, and compliance systems, particularly within foundations, NGOs, or financial institutions.
- Experience in development finance, social investment, or impact-driven programs.
- Ability to provide strategic guidance, constructive challenge, and independent judgment.
- Commitment to sustainable socio-economic development and the Foundation's mission.
- Experience engaging with and building partnerships with government ministries, development partners, private sector actors, and international organizations.
- Ability to guide the Foundation's long-term strategy, including scaling programs and diversifying funding.
