Besa Health Center is seeking to fill the following positions:

ANAESTHETIST

Number of Positions: 1
Duty Station: Besa Health Center, Karagwe-Kagera

Job Purpose

The Anaesthetist will provide safe and effective anaesthesia and perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical and other procedures requiring anaesthesia. The successful candidate will assess patients before procedures, provide appropriate anaesthetic care, monitor patients during procedures, and support safe recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-anaesthetic assessment and evaluate patients' suitability for anaesthesia.
  • Review relevant medical history, investigations, medications, allergies, and risk factors.
  • Develop and implement appropriate anaesthetic plans within the scope of professional practice.
  • Administer and monitor general, regional, local, or other appropriate forms of anaesthesia as qualified and authorized.
  • Continuously monitor patients' vital signs and physiological status during procedures.
  • Recognize and manage anaesthetic complications and emergencies promptly.
  • Provide appropriate post-anaesthetic monitoring and care.
  • Assist in resuscitation and emergency management when required.
  • Maintain accurate anaesthetic and patient records.
  • Ensure anaesthetic equipment, drugs, and supplies are available, functional, and properly maintained.
  • Follow infection prevention, patient safety, and medication safety standards.
  • Work closely with surgeons, doctors, nurses, and other theatre personnel.
  • Participate in theatre safety checks and quality improvement activities.
  • Provide appropriate information and counselling to patients regarding anaesthesia and perioperative care.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Health Center management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Holder of a recognized professional qualification in Anaesthesia appropriate to the position.
  • Must be registered with the relevant professional regulatory authority in Tanzania.
  • Must hold a valid practicing licence.
  • Relevant experience in anaesthesia, theatre, emergency care, or perioperative services will be an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of patient monitoring, resuscitation, airway management, and anaesthetic safety.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.
