Job Purpose
To perform advanced database administration functions across the Bank’s database environments, ensuring the availability, security, integrity, performance, and reliability of database systems while promoting best practices in database design, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery.
Principle Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain database high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), backup, recovery, replication, and business continuity solutions in line with organizational requirements and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Perform advanced database administration activities, including automation, upgrades, configuration, monitoring, capacity planning, storage, performance tuning and lifecycle management.
- Analyse and resolve complex database issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures to improve system stability and operational efficiency.
- Proactively monitor database systems and supporting infrastructure using enterprise monitoring tools to maintain optimal performance, availability, and security while minimizing downtime.
- Lead database performance optimization initiatives, including SQL tuning, indexing strategies, query optimization, resource utilization analysis, and workload management.
- Develop, implement, and enforce database security controls, standards, and policies, including access management, encryption, auditing, vulnerability remediation, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Develop and maintain database administration procedures, technical documentation, standards, operational runbooks, and knowledge repositories.
- Participates in data architecture requirements discussions and recommend usage of appropriate database and data management technology.
- Evaluate emerging database technologies and recommend improvements to enhance performance, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering or a related field.
- Professional database certifications in Oracle Database and at least one other database platform.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in complex Oracle Database Administration.
- Technical skills and working knowledge in database administration, preferably Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL, including SQL scripting and stored procedures.
- Experience in operating systems administration, including Unix, Linux and Windows environments.
- Technical knowledge of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and emerging database technologies.
- Critical thinking, analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team.
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- ICT Service Management skills.
