Job Purpose

The purpose of the role is to oversee compliance and financial crime by working with business teams in establishing and implementing business practices to ensure compliance with the regulatory framework.

The core responsibility is to promote a proactive and forward-looking Compliance risk management culture that enables Businesses and Functions to maintain suitable and value-added policies consistent with the regulatory environment.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead the implementation of the bank's Compliance Risk Policy and ensure that risk identification, assessment, and processes are effective and consistently applied across the bank.
  • Provide compliance advisory and mitigation strategies for new products, systems, new business ventures, outsourcing services, changes in processes, and other initiatives to Businesses and Functions.
  • Lead all Compliance risk assessment sessions related to key bank products and projects to identify project compliance risks early in the process, minimize surprises, and increase project efficiency.
  • Develop and review Compliance risk policies and procedures to ensure they are effectively implemented across the bank.
  • Ensure Compliance risk policies and strategies follow applicable regulations and are aligned with the bank's strategic objectives.
  • Manage the identification and assessment of compliance risks and work with Businesses, Functions, and Project Units to balance these risks with rewards and develop action plans to enhance the probability that desired objectives will be achieved.
  • Develop and provide organizational compliance training and create awareness through regular compliance on-site and off-site activities.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with Subsidiaries, Business Heads, and Functional Heads to assist in the development, assessment, and monitoring of mitigation plans for compliance risks and ensure all risks are managed to an acceptable level.
  • Propose appropriate Compliance risk appetite to Management and the Board and ensure its application across the bank.
  • Develop and maintain Compliance risk policies, practices, and tools to analyze and report compliance risks across the bank.
  • Provide key inputs to the bank's Management Committees responsible for various aspects of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and ensure alignment with the bank's strategic objectives.
  • Embed and maintain an effective compliance governance framework across the bank, with appropriate supporting approaches and methodologies, and present the aggregate risk profile.
  • Support the Head of Risk & Compliance to ensure timely closure of issues arising from review findings.
  • Embed a Financial Crime Risk Policy across the bank, including the definition and measurement of Financial Crime Key Risk Indicators (KRI), Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), and monthly governance assessments.
  • Recommend the Financial Crime risk appetite to Management and the Board to address the existing risk profile, risk capacity, and risk tolerance while pursuing growth and desired returns in line with the approved business strategy.
  • Drive proactiveness in embedding a Financial Crime risk management culture and monitoring adherence to the Financial Crime Risk Policy.
  • Conduct periodic assessments of the effectiveness of Financial Crime risk management across the bank.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the line manager.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Law, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the same or related field.
  • Master's degree is an added advantage.
  • Professional qualifications such as CAMS, CRMA, and CISA are an added advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong knowledge of controls and risk assessments.
  • Strong business knowledge and analytical skills.
